Claude Code by Anthropic

Medley vs. Claude Code

Claude Code is one of the best coding agents available. Medley is not a replacement — it is the mission layer that lets Claude Code scale beyond one terminal session.

Free · Mac OS

Claude Code delivers multi-file agentic edits from the terminal, VS Code, JetBrains, web, and Slack — with Sonnet, Opus, and Haiku models, plan-and-approve workflows, and full BYOK via Anthropic API keys or Pro/Max subscriptions.

The limitation is architectural, not model quality: one session is one thread. Medley coordinates Claude Code as part of decomposed missions — parallel steps, cross-project queue, cost per task, and work that spans code plus GTM and content.

What Claude Code does well

Claude Code is exceptional at implementation depth — reading codebases, planning changes, asking permission before applying, and shipping production-quality diffs. BYOK via API keys gives direct cost control for power users.

Integrations across terminal, IDEs, and Slack meet developers where they work. For a focused coding task inside one context window, it is among the best tools available.

Where Claude Code stops

Sessions are ephemeral and session-level. Parallel work across multiple projects means parallel tabs with you as the router. There is no mission DAG, no dynamic routing to Codex for mechanical steps, and no cross-project attention queue.

Coding-only — when the mission includes launch copy, customer research, or ad experiments, Claude Code does not decompose or coordinate those steps with your other agents.

What Medley does differently

Medley routes coding steps to Claude Code while sending other work to Codex or cheaper models. Missions persist across days with targets, budgets, sign-off gates, and receipts per finished task.

You keep Claude Code for what it does best. Medley adds the project layer — decomposition, parallel execution, and one queue for what actually needs you.

Key differences

Orchestration vs. agent

Claude Code implements. Medley plans, routes, and queues decisions.

Multi-agent routing

Medley mixes Claude Code and Codex per step. Claude Code alone is Claude-only per session.

Missions vs. sessions

Medley persists project state. Claude Code sessions end when the tab closes.

Cross-domain work

Medley spans code and GTM. Claude Code is coding-focused.

Which should you choose?

Choose Claude Code alone if

  • Your work fits in one session at a time with you as the planner
  • You only need coding — no GTM, content, or multi-project orchestration
  • Terminal or IDE pair programming is your entire workflow
  • You do not need cost attribution or attention queues across missions

Choose Medley + Claude Code if

  • You want Claude Code inside structured missions with decomposition
  • You run parallel work across projects and need one attention queue
  • You route mechanical steps to Codex and depth work to Claude Code
  • You need cost per finished task and sign-off gates before sensitive actions

Medley vs. Claude Code FAQ

Is Medley a Claude Code replacement?
No. Medley orchestrates Claude Code. You still use Claude Code for coding — Medley adds missions, routing, queues, and cost per task.
Do I still use my Anthropic API key?
Yes. Medley is BYOK. Claude Code runs with your Anthropic key as part of missions Medley coordinates.
Why not just use Claude Code for everything?
Depth vs. speed and cost. Medley routes mechanical work to Codex or smaller models and reserves Claude Code for steps that need depth — with visibility into per-task economics.
